After the Binance hack, can bitcoin hold $74,000?
The biggest crypto theft on record took more than $6 billion from Binance on Oct 29, and bitcoin fell to $76,141 the next day. Kalshi asks where bitcoin closes at 5 PM Eastern next Friday. Exclusive Tuna’s plan: YES, $74,000 or above, $5,000 at an 83.03¢ average, $6,021 back if the close holds.

Will bitcoin fall below $74,000 this week?
Probably not, the market says. At 5:14 AM PT on Oct 31, Kalshi priced about an 81% chance that bitcoin closes at or above $74,000 at 5 PM ET on Nov 6. Bitcoin was $77,467 on Coinbase, so it has to fall 4.5%. In six earlier exchange hacks and failures, bitcoin was lower a week later in five.1,6
Latest: . Agent LoLo tailed it on the $75,000 line, $500.84 at 75¢. Copy his trade on Kalshi. Next test: Binance’s withdrawal restart, targeted for Sunday, Nov 1. Every change goes in Updates.
What does $5,000 on the $74,000 line pay?
At Kalshi’s 82¢ ask, $5,000 buys 6,021 contracts with the $62.21 taker fee folded in, an 83.03¢ average. Each pays $1 if bitcoin closes at or above $74,000: $6,021 back, +$1,021.57 (+20.4%). If it closes below, the $4,999.43 is gone. Break-even is 83.03%: the line has to hold about five weeks in six to be worth it.1,9
| Bitcoin closes at or above | YES ask | $100 pays | Break-even |
|---|---|---|---|
| $72,000 | 91¢ | $109 | 91.6% |
| $73,000 | 87¢ | $113 | 87.8% |
| $74,000Our line | 82¢ | $120 | 83.0% |
| $75,000 | 75¢ | $131 | 76.3% |
| $76,000 | 67¢ | $145 | 68.6% |
| $78,000 | 47¢ | $205 | 48.8% |
| $80,000 | 28¢ | $340 | 29.4% |
Why $74,000 and not $75,000. The September low was $74,888 and short-term holders’ average cost is $75,800 (Glassnode, Oct 28). $74,000 sits under both, so a close there means support broke, not just a wobble.7
On history it is a little expensive. Since 2020, bitcoin closed 4.5% or more lower six days later on 18.6% of days, so it held 81.4% of the time, against the 83.0% break-even. Over the last 365 days it held 83.6%. No edge on history alone; the case rests on the dates below.2

How much was stolen in the Binance hack, and where is it now?
$6.36 billion by TRM Labs’ count, $6.43 billion by Elliptic’s and about $6.3 billion by Binance’s, drained in about 20 minutes from 1:05 PM PT on Oct 29.3,4
| Stolen | $6.36bn to $6.43bn | TRM Labs, Elliptic |
|---|---|---|
| Frozen by stablecoin issuers | $2.85bn | Elliptic: 94% of it stablecoins |
| Bitcoin taken | 18,270 BTC | about $1.4bn, in 19 wallets |
| Bitcoin moved since | none | Elliptic, unspent since 1:48 PM PT Oct 29 |
| Set aside by Binance | over $6.34bn | Binance, via crypto.news |
Who hacked Binance?
TRM Labs ties it with high confidence to TraderTraitor, the North Korean group the FBI linked to the $1.5 billion Bybit theft in February 2025. Chainalysis names the same group; Elliptic says likely. No government has attributed it yet.4
Did the hackers sell the bitcoin?
Not as of 10 PM PT Oct 30: the 18,270 BTC sat untouched, and nothing on Bitcoin can be frozen. The selling so far was tokens and stablecoins dumped 12% to 26% below market for ether.3 Our view, not a fact: we don’t expect the stolen bitcoin on exchange order books this week. After Bybit, the same group swapped ether into bitcoin and cashed out through brokers months later.6 That is a pattern, not a promise.
Is Binance safe to use right now?
Withdrawals have been paused since about 3:27 PM PT Oct 29. Binance targets a phased restart on Sunday, Nov 1, and a full proof of reserves on Monday, Nov 2. It says users won’t bear the loss and is buying about $1.3 billion of replacement coins on the market and over the counter.5 Our view: that is a bill Binance can pay, not a price floor.
Not the same event as the 2019 Binance theft of 7,000 BTC or the 2022 BNB Chain bridge exploit, which also come up for “Binance hack”.
What did bitcoin do after past exchange hacks?
It usually fell further. Across six exchange hacks and failures, the median daily close was 4.6% lower the next day, 13.4% lower a week later and 13.3% lower a month later. Five of six were lower at a week.6
| Event | 1 day | 7 days | 30 days |
|---|---|---|---|
| Mt Gox halts withdrawals, Feb 2014 | −6.8% | −12.4% | −16.1% |
| Bitfinex hack, Aug 2016 | −13.1% | −3.1% | −5.7% |
| Coincheck hack, Jan 2018 | −0.9% | −21.1% | −13.7% |
| Binance 7,000 BTC hack, May 2019 | +2.4% | +39.8% | +36.6% |
| FTX withdrawal halt, Nov 2022 | −10.0% | −18.1% | −16.2% |
| Bybit hack, Feb 2025 | −2.4% | −14.4% | −12.8% |
Six events is a small sample, and bear markets, FTX contagion and 2025’s tariff selloff overlap them. Bybit matters most: a solvent exchange that repaid every user, and bitcoin still closed 14.4% lower a week later. This time bitcoin had already fallen about 6% from the hack’s start to the Oct 30 low, so part of that move may be in the price.
How should you trade crypto after an exchange hack?
With rules written before the headline, not after. Five we use, none of them advice:
- Know your break-even after fees. At 82¢ plus the fee you need 83.03%, not 82%. If your own read is not above that, there is no trade. See how fees move break-even.
- Pick close or touch on purpose. This line only cares about the 5 PM ET close on Friday. A one-touch line loses on a single bad minute. After a hack, wicks are the risk; closes forgive more.
- Trade the calendar. Withdrawals restart Nov 1 and reserves publish Nov 2. A smooth restart removes the overhang; a delay invites run fear. Plan your size around those two days.
- Size so a loss is boring. A position priced in the 80s risks five to win one. Fixed units, one position per thesis, no doubling after a loss.
- Write down what proves you wrong. Ours is the next section. If one trips, it goes in Updates with the time.
What would prove this pick wrong?
Any of these, checked as of 5:14 AM PT Oct 31. A change goes in Updates; rows here are never rewritten.
- A daily close below $75,800
- Not hit Glassnode’s short-term holder cost, Oct 28. Our tripwire.
- A daily close below $74,888, the September low
- Not hit Coinbase’s October low was $76,141.
- Withdrawals not restarted by the end of Nov 1
- Pending Binance’s own target.
- Proof of reserves late or short on Nov 2
- Pending Binance’s own date.
- The stolen bitcoin moves to an exchange or broker
- Not hit Elliptic, as of 10 PM PT Oct 30.
- History below break-even
- Against us now 81.4% held, against 83.0% needed.
Also against us: options traders bought about $155 million of mid-November $74,000 puts after the hack, and one-week put skew peaked at 18%. ETFs saw $643.2 million leave on Oct 30, the biggest day since June.7
Is bitcoin at its cycle low? A Wyckoff read (heuristic)
Probably not this week. The 2026 low is $57,718 on Jul 1, and this week’s $76,141 is a higher low above September’s $74,888.2 Wyckoff is a chart-reading heuristic, labeled after the fact, with no published hit rate. On our map the spring, a quick break below support that snaps back, came on Jul 1. This week’s low never broke support, so it is not a spring. Our view: the read holds while there is no daily close below $74,888. We found no sign of a new cycle starting: Kalshi priced a fall below $55,000 before Jan 1, 2027 at 12¢ to 13¢. The full map is in our September Wyckoff cycle read.
How do bitcoin 15-minute up or down markets move after a hack?
Bigger, and faster. The 15-minute window that opened at 1:30 PM PT on Oct 29 settled $1,356 below its starting price, the biggest move of any October window in our data. From 1 PM PT that day the average window swung about 1.85 times its October size, and the market favorite still won at about its price.8
Agent LoLo kept calling through it. He is the AI trading agent PM Countdown built for Kalshi’s bitcoin 15-minute up or down markets. Oct 29 to early Oct 31: 155 of 201 calls right. On a fresh $10,000 practice bank each day he finished Oct 29 up $2,005.84, Oct 30 up $637.21, and was up $212.60 early Oct 31. Practice bank, as of 5:15 AM PT Oct 31.
New to these? How 15-minute markets work.
Closing below vs touching below: what’s the difference?
This market settles on the close only. Kalshi takes the simple average of the 60 seconds of CF Benchmarks’ Bitcoin Real-Time Index before 5 PM Eastern on Nov 6; at or above $74,000 pays YES.1 Bitcoin can trade under $74,000 on Tuesday and this still wins if it is back above by Friday’s close. A monthly “how low” market is the opposite: one bad minute and it is over. Since 2020, bitcoin touched 4.5% lower within 30 days on 70.1% of days.2
Note the clock. US clocks fall back on Nov 1, so 5 PM Eastern on Nov 6 is 2:00 PM Pacific.

LoLo tailed
Agent LoLo tailed this pick one line higher: YES on bitcoin at or above $75,000 at 5 PM ET Friday, $500.84 at a 75¢ average, $667.79 back if the close holds. That line needs a 3.2% cushion instead of 4.5%, so it pays more and is a little less likely. Tail him with one tap: copy LoLo’s trade on Kalshi. The $74,000 plan above is unchanged.

Plan, no fill yet
Kalshi’s public trade tape shows no trade on the $74,000 line since 8:30 PM PT Oct 30, so the plan is recorded at the 82¢ ask and $5,000, the same way as the Oct 2 pick. If it fills, the fill goes here with its time and price.
