WNBA game markets

Kalshi lists a YES contract for each team in each game, paying $1 on a win. Its open list has carried past-dated games before, so this board only shows markets whose close time is still ahead.

Season: Postseason games run through September and, in recent seasons, into October.

Method, not picks

How we approach WNBA

What we look at before we write a plan. Every plan still has three lines: the buy price, the sell target and the hold rule.

  1. One player matters more

Rosters are small, so one absence changes a game more than in the NBA. We confirm availability before posting a plan.

  2. Series context in the playoffs

A team down in a series plays differently. We price the game in front of us, not the series narrative.

  3. Thin books, wider gaps

Some games trade with a wide spread. If the gap between bid and ask eats the edge, we don't trade.

  4. The target is set before tip-off

Same method as every sport: buy below fair value, place the sell order, decide the hold rule in advance.

Before you trade

What to check first

  • Home court is close to a coin flip: 52.3% and +0.8 points in 2024, down from 64.3% in 2009.
  • Check which way the home team last flew. Eastward jet lag cost home sides about 1.9 points a game.
  • Add roughly 0.4 points per 1,000 miles the away team travelled.
  • One absence is a bigger share of a 12-player roster than of an NBA 15.
  • Back-to-backs have almost doubled since 2016, but the injury effect is not in the data.
  • 40 minutes of play locks your result in here, eight minutes earlier than the NBA.
  • There is no published report deadline like the NBA's. Work from lineups near tip.

Every market on Kalshi has its own rules page. When our checklist and the rules disagree, the rules win.

Basics

How WNBA markets work

One contract

One YES per outcome

Each side gets its own YES contract. It pays $1.00 if that outcome happens and $0 if it doesn't.

Probability

Price reads as a chance

A 22¢ YES price means the market puts it near 22%. What matters is the gap between that and your own estimate.

Spread

Bid, ask and the gap

You buy at the ask and sell at the bid. The gap between them is a cost you pay every time you go in and out.

Fees

Fees move break-even

Kalshi's taker fee is 0.07 × contracts × price × (1 − price), rounded up to the cent. Resting orders on many markets pay a lower maker rate. Fee schedule
