Eight storylines for Commanders at 49ers

Jayden Daniels is back, in a brace

Jayden Daniels returned from a dislocated left elbow on October 11 and ran for 103 yards and two touchdowns on nine carries in Washington’s 27-27 overtime tie with the Giants. He also completed 17 of 25 passes for 199 yards. He dislocated the elbow, on his non-throwing arm, in Week 2 at Dallas, his second dislocation in 11 months, and he will wear a brace that keeps it slightly bent for the rest of the season. AP via ESPN · AP via ESPN · ESPN · ESPN

The overtime ending that still stings

Washington led 27-13 in the fourth quarter before Jameis Winston rallied the Giants. In overtime, at the Giants 24 with no timeouts left, Daniels pulled the ball down and was tackled for no gain, and time ran out before Drew Stevens could try a 42-yard field goal. “Ultimately, it’s on me,” Daniels said. Dan Quinn put it on himself too: “That has to come from me.” Terry McLaurin called it “unacceptable.” ESPN · AP via ESPN

Three quarterbacks in five weeks

With Daniels out, Marcus Mariota started and then left the October 4 loss to Indianapolis in London with a knee injury Quinn said looked like an MCL; third-string rookie Athan Kaliakmanis finished 15 of 33 for 186 yards and a touchdown. Mariota was ruled out against the Giants with a sprained MCL. Washington is 1-3-1: a 24-22 loss at Philadelphia, a 37-20 loss at Dallas, a 33-31 win over Seattle, a 30-13 loss to the Colts and the tie. Its bye comes in Week 7. The 49ers are 5-0 with a long injury list

San Francisco beat the Rams 27-7 at a neutral site, then Miami 35-13, Arizona 36-30, Denver 24-14 and Seattle 32-29. Four weeks in, the Niners had the most games missed by players because of injury, 75, according to CBS Sports as cited by ESPN, and defensive end Nick Bosa, who hurt his calf in a September 24 practice, was inactive at Seattle. ESPN’s DVOA had them as the 11th-best team through four games since 1977, with Brock Purdy leading the league in QBR. ESPN 49ers schedule · ESPN · ESPN 49ers injuries · ESPN

Mike Evans and a short receiver room

Mike Evans caught 7 passes for 113 yards and a touchdown at Seattle, four of them for 75 yards on the go-ahead drive, while playing through a rib injury for the second straight week. Deebo Samuel left that game with a hamstring injury and is scheduled for an MRI. Ricky Pearsall, De’Zhaun Stribling and Demarcus Robinson are on injured reserve, and Kyle Shanahan’s initial suspicion was that Christian Kirk would not return to practice this week. ESPN · AP via ESPN · ESPN · ESPN 49ers injuries

Purdy has beaten Washington twice

The 49ers won the last two meetings. Purdy threw two long touchdown passes to George Kittle in a 37-20 win at Levi’s Stadium on December 24, 2022, and went 22 of 28 for 230 yards and two touchdowns in a 27-10 win at Washington on December 31, 2023, the day San Francisco clinched the NFC’s top seed. AP via ESPN · AP via ESPN

Diggs, McLaurin and a leaky pass defense

Stefon Diggs missed the Giants game with a hamstring injury from Week 4; he leads Washington with 18 catches for 170 yards and three touchdowns. Terry McLaurin came back from his own hamstring injury with 4 catches for 62 yards. Washington allows 29.8 points and 268.8 passing yards a game, per ESPN, while San Francisco scores 30.8 and allows 18.6. ESPN · AP via ESPN · ESPN game page

Why each side can win

The Commanders

Daniels ran for 103 yards and two touchdowns in his first game back, and Washington led the NFC East-leading Giants 27-13 in the fourth quarter. Washington averages 139.6 rushing yards a game, and San Francisco is without Bosa and Juszczyk from Week 5, with Samuel questionable and three receivers on injured reserve.

The 49ers

San Francisco is 5-0, scores 30.8 points a game and allows 18.6. Purdy has 13 touchdown passes and has beaten Washington twice, Evans just had 113 yards at Seattle, and Washington allows 29.8 points and 268.8 passing yards a game with Diggs and Mariota out last week.

What the market says

The posted line has San Francisco 49ers favoured by 7.5, with a total of 50.5. A spread is the market's estimate of the margin, not a result; the Kalshi contract below prices the win outright.

The two venue prices sit at the top of this page and are read live when it loads. A contract settles at $1.00 if that team wins and $0 if it loses, so a price in cents is that market’s implied chance of the win. Prices are the venues’, not our picks, and the two rarely agree to the cent.

A spread and a contract price are two different questions. The spread is the market’s estimate of the margin; the contract prices the win outright, and it is the one you can sell before the game ends. Books differ on the spread itself: our read found two games where a second book had a different number the same afternoon.1

The question on Washington Commanders

Washington Commanders are 1-3-1 and they are on the road, and the line makes them the underdog by 7.5. Decide what chance you would give them, in cents, before you read the board. If your number is above the ask, that is the trade; if it is not, there is no trade here.

The question on San Francisco 49ers

San Francisco 49ers are 5-0 and favoured by 7.5. A favourite contract costs most of a dollar, so the money at risk is large against the money to be made. Work out what you lose if it goes wrong before you decide what you make if it goes right.

Whatever you decide, write the entry, the sell target and the hold rule before kickoff, and remember the fee is largest near 50¢. How the fee works

The San Francisco 49ers are 7.5-point favorites over the Washington Commanders at DraftKings, with the 49ers at -425, the Commanders at +330 and a total of 50.5, as read October 12, 2026. Lines move through the week.

Is Jayden Daniels playing Monday night?

Nothing reported as of October 12 says otherwise. Daniels returned from a dislocated left elbow on October 11, ran for 103 yards and two touchdowns against the Giants, and will wear a brace on that elbow for the rest of the season. Official injury reports come later in the week.

Is Deebo Samuel playing against the Commanders?

ESPN lists Samuel as questionable with a hamstring injury, as read October 12. He left the 32-29 win at Seattle in the third quarter and was scheduled for an MRI.

What happened the last time the Commanders played the 49ers?

San Francisco won 27-10 at Washington on December 31, 2023. Brock Purdy went 22 of 28 for 230 yards and two touchdowns, and the 49ers clinched the NFC’s top seed that day. They also won the meeting before that, 37-20 in December 2022.

What is Agent Brad’s parlay for Commanders vs 49ers?

How many points is each team priced for in Washington Commanders at San Francisco 49ers?

Half the total moved half the spread puts Washington Commanders at about 21.5 points and San Francisco 49ers at about 29. That is arithmetic on the two posted numbers, not a score projection, and it is the figure most fantasy decisions on this game turn on.

How often does each leg of a pick'em entry need to hit to break even?

A pick'em entry is a parlay, so every leg has to land: two legs you price at 60 per cent are 36 per cent together, and three are 22 per cent. If your board pays N times the entry on an L-leg play, the entry needs to win one divided by N of the time, so each leg needs the L-th root of that. A two-leg play paying 3x needs each leg at about 57.7 per cent, and a four-leg play paying 10x needs each at about 56.2 per cent. Multipliers differ by state, board and promotion, so use your own terms.
