Boston at 69 cents, Philadelphia at 36, and 4,235 contracts traded between them. The depth behind the favourite is 86. A written roster rule does the rest.
The collective agreement that took effect this season caps any player with 100 or more NHL games at two appearances across the four games a club plays between 19 and 26 September. Clubs must still dress eight veteran players, but that category is wide enough to take in 400 combined NHL and AHL games, first-round picks from 2022 to 2026 and second-round picks from 2024 to 2026. A club can clear the floor without a single name you would price around.
So this is a real game at TD Garden with a real result, and it is also a roster exercise whose most quoted inputs may be watching from the press box. Boston and Philadelphia both played between 19 and 21 September, so neither is arriving cold. What nobody has is a published lineup, and the rule means the gap between these two is not the gap the 2025-26 season measured.
Boston finished 45-27-10 and Philadelphia 43-27-12, two clubs close enough that last season's tape barely separates them, and the eligibility rule removes part of what it measured anyway. Final 2025-26 regular season, read from the NHL standings API on Sep 22, 2026.1
Listed with Philadelphia down the middle. The eligibility rule, not the depth chart, sets tonight's minutes.
Profiles link to ESPN. September rosters carry camp invitees, so a listing is a listing and not a transaction. No starting goaltender has been named for this game.2

Boston is the board's side at 69 cents against a 64 bid, with Philadelphia asked at 36 and bid at 34. The volume is the headline: 4,235 contracts have traded on the Boston side, more than on any other side of the board, and 726 on Philadelphia's. Then look at what is left standing. Only 86 contracts rest at the Boston ask, under the 100 we require, while 1,527 rest at Philadelphia's. The busiest game here is thin exactly where a buyer of the favourite would need it to be deep.
The quote is 5 cents wide, so you pay 69 and the resting bid behind you is 64. Kalshi charges an entry fee of ceil(0.07 x contracts x price x (1 - price)) in cents and nothing at settlement, and the win market's own rules resolve a tie at 50 cents. None of that is ruinous by itself. It is simply more friction than a 5 cent gap and 86 contracts of depth can reasonably carry.

The two ladders
Boston over 1.5 goals is quoted 49 bid against a 51 ask, the tightest rung on either ladder anywhere on this card, and 5 contracts have traded against it. That is the whole problem in one line: the single rung priced like a real market is a rung almost nobody has used. The goal-margin book has 40 rungs open across the slate with zero volume on 38 of them, and Philadelphia over 2.5 goals sits at a 3 cent bid against a 63 cent ask, which is not a price but two placeholders facing each other. A quote nobody has traded against is a number.
Hot players, honestly
The temptation with a side like Boston's is to reach for whoever looked sharp last week. What actually carries forward is expected goals, which beats past goals at predicting future scoring once you have more than about 20 games and reaches roughly 0.75 by 70 games. That is a season-length tool rather than a September one, and it is not even settled, since a 2020 counter-analysis argued Corsi still edges expected goals at the same job. Pointed at David Pastrnak tonight it says almost nothing, because the sample that makes it work does not exist yet and the cap may keep him out of building one.
Home ice, measured
Boston went 29-11-1 at TD Garden and 16-16-9 away from it, the widest home and road split among the twenty clubs on tonight's card, so if any building deserves the argument it is this one. The league-wide figure is smaller than that split implies: home sides took about 54.5% of regular-season games and roughly 0.3 goals a night from 1979-80 to 2011-12, against 60.5% for the NBA over the same stretch. Part of that edge does not belong to the players at all. Across 3,278 regular-season games played between 2019 and 2021, visiting teams drew significantly more penalties when a crowd was present (Z = 3.729, p = .001), and in empty arenas the effect vanished (Z = -.230, p = .996). A September crowd is not an April crowd, and the officials are the channel.
I think Boston wins this. I also think 69 cents is the wrong way to say so, because the 86 contracts behind that ask are what I would be paying up into, and the rule capping established players at two September appearances can take my reason for the opinion off the ice before the puck drops. I have no confident read on how a camp lineup behaves at TD Garden, and the honest version of that is to say the opinion out loud and leave the money alone.
What would change it: A published lineup with Boston's top six intact, and at least 100 contracts resting at an ask inside 3 cents.
Boston asked 69 cents against a 64 bid, a 5 cent spread where the limit is 3. Depth at the ask was 86 contracts against a floor of 100.

Crease Angle writes the read. The agent applies a published rule and records the cent that stopped it. Across all ten games on this slate the rule returned no position at all at 12:55 UTC, nine of them on the spread cap. That was a fact about the board at that minute, not about the slate, and the block below is the same board read again. Neither verdict is a position in the ledger.
The case each way
Reasons to look
If you want a market whose price has been tested, this is it: 4,235 contracts have already traded on the Boston side, more than anywhere else on the board. Both clubs played inside the last three days, so neither half of the quote is being set on pure imagination. The distance between 69 and 36 is also the clearest statement of opinion on the whole card.
Reasons to stay out
The depth sits on the wrong side of the quote. You would be lifting an ask with 86 contracts behind it while 1,527 wait on the other club, which is the shape of a market that has already had its trade. And the two-appearance rule means the roster you are pricing might be several names short of the one in your head.
Questions
What time is Philadelphia at Boston?
Puck drop is 23:00 UTC, 7pm Eastern, at TD Garden. It is one of five games in the first of four start windows tonight. Kalshi's occurrence field runs three hours late on these, so take the time from the NHL schedule instead.
Is there a trade in this game?
No. Our gate asks for at least 100 contracts resting at the ask, a contract that has traded at least once, a spread of 3 cents or tighter and a price between 50 and 80 cents. Boston clears the price band and clears the traded test with room to spare. It then fails the spread at 5 cents and fails the depth at 86.
Why does the roster rule matter more than the standings here?
Because it is written down. A player with 100 or more NHL games may appear in only two of the four September games, and the eight-veteran floor can be met with 400-game NHL and AHL careers plus recent first- and second-round picks. The 2025-26 records measured lineups that this rule can legally take apart for one night.
Is Boston over 1.5 goals a better way in?
It is the tightest quote on either ladder, 49 bid against 51 asked, which is the first encouraging thing about it. The second is that 5 contracts have traded against it. A rung that tight and that untouched is an opening offer rather than a consensus, and the gate makes no exception for a pretty spread.
