Seattle is 3-2 with Sam Darnold back from a Week 1 hip injury and Jaxon Smith-Njigba over 100 yards in four of five games. Denver is also 3-2 after a 23-17 win at the Chargers in Sean Payton’s first game back calling plays, a game All-Pro corner Pat Surtain II missed with an ankle injury. Eight storylines for Seahawks at Broncos

The champions come to Denver

The Seahawks come to Denver as the reigning Super Bowl champions, and Jaxon Smith-Njigba comes as the reigning Offensive Player of the Year. Newsweek billed Thursday as the champions against the defending AFC finalist. Under Sean Payton, the Broncos have won their only home Thursday Night Football game and are 2-2 on Thursday nights overall. Denver Broncos · Newsweek

Seattle gave one away to San Francisco

The 49ers won 32-29 in Seattle on Sunday when Eddy Pineiro hit a 43-yard field goal with 1:56 left, in a game with seven combined turnovers. Seattle had four: two lost fumbles inside the 11 and two Sam Darnold interceptions, both to Renardo Green, and three of them led straight to 49ers points. In the final minute Smith-Njigba could not come down with a third-and-10 throw, and Cooper Kupp was stopped a yard short on fourth down. Mike Macdonald said his team had “way too many giveaways.” AP via theScore · AP via theScore

Darnold’s detour and a 3-2 start

Darnold hurt his hip on the opening drive of the season, going 1 of 2 for 13 yards across five snaps before his backup led 13 unanswered points in a 13-10 win over New England. Seattle then won 31-7 at Arizona with Darnold out, lost 33-31 at Washington, a loss that ended a 12-game winning streak, and beat the Chargers 30-23 before Sunday’s loss. theScore · Pro-Football-Reference · Seahawks.com

Payton is calling the plays again

Sean Payton took play-calling back from offensive coordinator Davis Webb last week, and Denver beat the winless Chargers 23-17 with only 224 total yards. The Broncos converted 1 of 12 third downs, but they ran 29 times for a season-high 106 yards, while Bo Nix threw for a season-low 123. “Good enough,” Payton said. “But still a number of things to get better in.” AP via theScore

Denver lives in close games

The Broncos are 3-0 in one-score games after beating Jacksonville 20-13, the Rams 30-26 and the Chargers 23-17. Their two losses came on the road, 31-10 at Kansas City and 24-14 at San Francisco. On Sunday they scored 13 points on their last three possessions, and Nix’s tying touchdown pass to Courtland Sutton was the 11th fourth-quarter comeback of his career. Zach Allen forced a fumble, Justin Herbert threw a fourth-down interception, and Denver sacked Herbert five times. Denver Broncos · Pro-Football-Reference · AP via theScore

Surtain’s ankle and a thin secondary

All-Pro cornerback Pat Surtain II hurt his ankle without contact late in the second quarter at San Francisco on October 4 and did not return; Tom Pelissero reported his Achilles was intact. Surtain and Riley Moss, who sat out the second half of that game with a rib issue, were both inactive against the Chargers, and safety Talanoa Hufanga left Sunday’s game with an ankle injury. Newsweek · Denver Broncos · AP via theScore

The last meeting, and the throwbacks

These teams last met in Week 1 of 2024, a 26-20 Seattle win in Macdonald’s first game as a head coach. Macdonald later told interviewer Graham Bensinger that he likes Payton “a lot,” but that Payton is “not my biggest fan.” Seattle wears its 90s-style royal blue throwbacks on Thursday, the same uniforms it wore in that 2024 win, and Denver wears orange jerseys and blue helmets honoring its 1977 team. Newsweek · Seahawks.com

The line

DraftKings had the Seahawks by 3 with a total of 41.5, the Seahawks at -148 and the Broncos at +124, as read on ESPN on October 12. Lines move through the week; the live Kalshi price is on this page. ESPN odds (DraftKings)

Where Seahawks vs Broncos gets decided

Emanuel Wilson against a soft Denver run defense

Denver allows 145.2 rushing yards a game, 29th in the league, at 4.7 a carry. Seattle’s backfield has narrowed to one man: with Zach Charbonnet out and Jadarian Price on injured reserve, Emanuel Wilson carried 21, 21 and 20 times in the last three games he played, for 92, 81 and 61 yards. He also lost a fumble at the Seattle 11 on Sunday that the 49ers turned into a touchdown on the next play (AP). Kalshi had Wilson 40+ at 80¢ to 81¢ Thursday morning and 60+ at 58¢ to 59¢.

Bo Nix against the stingiest pass defense

Seattle allows 150.8 net passing yards a game, the fewest in the league by ESPN’s team box scores once the Rams’ Monday game is counted (Pro-Football-Reference had it second on Monday), and 4.5 net yards an attempt, second. It leads the league with 11 takeaways. Nix threw for 288 yards in Week 2 and 186, 214 and 123 in the three games since. Denver ranks 30th in total offense at 269 yards a game and converted 1 of 12 third downs on Sunday. Kalshi had Nix 200+ passing at 46¢ to 47¢.

Darnold and Smith-Njigba against a secondary without Surtain

Denver allows 202.2 net passing yards a game, ninth fewest by ESPN’s team box scores, and plays without Pat Surtain II and safety Talanoa Hufanga, with Riley Moss questionable. Smith-Njigba has 76 or more receiving yards in all five games (122, 155, 128, 76, 102) and a 34.5% target share, per Newsweek, and practiced fully Wednesday on his ankle. Darnold threw for 379, 168 and 195 yards in his three full starts. Kalshi had Darnold 150+ at 86¢ to 87¢ and Smith-Njigba 50+ at 84¢ to 85¢.

Third downs and giveaways

Both offenses have stalled on third down: Seattle converts 29.8% (31st), Denver 33.8% (27th). Seattle’s defense allows only 29.4%, third best; Denver’s allows 45.2%. Seattle has 11 takeaways and 9 giveaways, Denver 7 and 6. J.K. Dobbins is Denver’s lead back, 36, 36, 49, 40 and 68 rushing yards on 8 to 18 carries, against a Seattle run defense allowing 100.4 a game, 11th fewest, at 3.7 a carry.

Kalshi against DraftKings

DraftKings prices Seattle at −142 and Denver at +120 (ESPN, read 9:35 AM PT Thursday). As chances that is 58.7% and 45.5%, which add to 104.1% because the book builds its margin into both sides. Taken out evenly, Seattle comes to about 56.3%.

Kalshi had Seattle at 56¢ to sell and 57¢ to buy at 9:32 AM PT, and Denver at 43¢ and 44¢: the same game, priced within a cent of the book once its margin is gone. ESPN’s matchup predictor is lower on Seattle, at 52.6%.

The spread and the contract ask different questions. A Seattle win by 2 pays the Kalshi “Seahawks win” contract in full and loses a Seattle −2.5 ticket. ESPN odds (DraftKings) · Kalshi · ESPN game page

“My pre-game ticket is four legs, three on Seattle and one on Denver, every one an over. At the Kalshi asks it pays 2.31x, so the asks need 43.3%; the market puts all four landing at 38.6%, shaved for one game script. Against Weeks 1 to 5, 14 of 14 leg-games cleared.”

How it is placed: on Kalshi as one combo before kickoff. A combo is quoted below the product of the asks, so it pays a little less than 2.31x. The real cost and payout go here once it is placed.

  1. Sam Darnold 150+ passing yardsPosted at 87¢. Weeks 1 to 5: 379, 168, 195.

    Why him
Seattle’s starter, back from his Week 1 hip injury.
    Why this number
379, 168 and 195 in his full starts. 150 is 18 under his lowest.
    The matchup
Denver allows 202.2 net passing yards a game, ninth fewest, and plays without Surtain and Hufanga.
    How it misses
Seattle runs it 40 times with a lead, or the rain keeps the ball on the ground.
  2. Emanuel Wilson 40+ rushing yardsPosted at 81¢. Weeks 1 to 5: 92, 81, 61.

    Why him
Seattle’s lead back since Week 4, with Charbonnet out and Price on injured reserve.
    Why this number
92, 81 and 61 as the lead. 40 is 21 under his lowest.
    The matchup
    Denver allows 145.2 rushing yards a game, 29th, at 4.7 a carry.
    How it misses
Another fumble sends carries to Holani, or Seattle trails early.
  3. J.K. Dobbins 25+ rushing yardsPosted at 83¢. Weeks 1 to 5: 36, 36, 49, 40, 68.

    Why him
Denver’s lead back in all five games.
    Why this number
    36, 36, 49, 40 and 68. 25 is 11 under his lowest.
    The matchup
Seattle allows 100.4 rushing yards a game, 11th fewest, at 3.7 a carry.
    How it misses
Denver falls behind and stops running, or RJ Harvey takes the carries.
  4. Emanuel Wilson 15+ carriesPosted at 74¢. Weeks 1 to 5: 21, 21, 20.

    Why him
The same lead back, carried 20 or more times in each of his last three games.
    Why this number
21, 21 and 20 carries. 15 is five under his lowest as the lead.
    The matchup
The same Denver run defense, 29th.
    How it misses
A Seattle deficit, or a fumble that costs him his spot.

Where it is thinnest: Emanuel Wilson at 15+ carries (21, 21, 20 in Weeks 1 to 5).

Wilson carries two legs. He lost a fumble on Sunday that the 49ers turned into a touchdown. If Seattle turns to George Holani, both legs go together.

Where this ticket can break

Agent Brad NFL film room. Player-prop parlays on Kalshi.

The weakest leg is Wilson 15+ carries. It is the cheapest leg on the ticket at 72¢ to 74¢, and it depends on game script more than any other line.

Wilson carries two legs. His yards and his carries both need Seattle to keep giving him the ball. One benching costs both.

The legs move together. A Seattle lead helps Wilson and hurts nothing else; a Seattle deficit hurts Wilson and helps Darnold. That is why the market’s 41.9% for all four is shaved to 38.6%.

If Denver runs away from Dobbins. Dobbins had 8 carries in Week 1 and still made 36 yards. A trailing Denver throws more, which thins his carries.

Why each side can win

The Seahawks

Seattle is the reigning champion with the reigning Offensive Player of the Year, and Smith-Njigba has 583 yards with four 100-yard games. Darnold threw for 379 at Washington, and the Seahawks won 31-7 at Arizona and 30-23 over the Chargers. Denver was without Surtain and Moss at corner on Sunday and lost Hufanga during the game.

The Broncos

Denver is at home, 3-0 in one-score games, and Nix has 11 fourth-quarter comebacks in his career. Payton’s first game calling plays again brought a season-high 106 rushing yards, and the defense sacked Herbert five times. Seattle just turned it over four times and is down to Wilson and Holani at running back.

What the market says

The posted line has Seattle Seahawks favoured by 3 on the road, with a total of 41.5. A spread is the market's estimate of the margin, not a result; the Kalshi contract below prices the win outright.

The two venue prices sit at the top of this page and are read live when it loads. A contract settles at $1.00 if that team wins and $0 if it loses, so a price in cents is that market’s implied chance of the win. Prices are the venues’, not our picks, and the two rarely agree to the cent.

A spread and a contract price are two different questions. The spread is the market’s estimate of the margin; the contract prices the win outright, and it is the one you can sell before the game ends. Books differ on the spread itself: our read found two games where a second book had a different number the same afternoon.1

The question on Denver Broncos

Denver Broncos are 3-2 and they are at home, and the line makes them the underdog by 3. Decide what chance you would give them, in cents, before you read the board. If your number is above the ask, that is the trade; if it is not, there is no trade here.

The question on Seattle Seahawks

Seattle Seahawks are 3-2 and favoured by 3. A favourite contract costs most of a dollar, so the money at risk is large against the money to be made. Work out what you lose if it goes wrong before you decide what you make if it goes right.

Whatever you decide, write the entry, the sell target and the hold rule before kickoff, and remember the fee is largest near 50¢. How the fee works

How often does each leg of a pick'em entry need to hit to break even?

A pick'em entry is a parlay, so every leg has to land: two legs you price at 60 per cent are 36 per cent together, and three are 22 per cent. If your board pays N times the entry on an L-leg play, the entry needs to win one divided by N of the time, so each leg needs the L-th root of that. A two-leg play paying 3x needs each leg at about 57.7 per cent, and a four-leg play paying 10x needs each at about 56.2 per cent. Multipliers differ by state, board and promotion, so use your own terms.
