Alonzo Menifield beat Iwo Baraniewski by split decision at UFC 331 on September 19, 2026, in a light heavyweight bout that went the full three rounds and ended at 5:00 of round three. The scores were 28-29, 29-28 and 29-28. It was the first loss of Baraniewski's professional career.
Menifield broke his thumb in round one. The bone was visibly protruding and he was bleeding heavily by round two. The cageside doctor checked the hand between rounds and cleared him to continue. He fought the rest of the way with it and took the split decision at 5:00 of round three, scored 28-29, 29-28, 29-28 in the UFC's order. It opened the main card.
Baraniewski was 9-0 coming in. Every one of those wins was a first-round finish, and he had never been past round one in his professional career. UFC 331 was the first time anyone made him fight for fifteen minutes, and he lost for the first time doing it. He leaves at 9-1 with the finishing streak and the unbeaten record gone in the same night.
Menifield is 38. He is 19-6-1 now and 4-1 in his last five, and this was his second straight upset win.
