These are the 100 largest Bitcoin addresses by balance. Most of the biggest are exchange cold wallets, some hold coins seized by governments, and many have no public owner. Each row shows the balance, when the address last sent and received coins, and an owner only where a named source gives one. Satoshi Nakamoto’s coins sit in about 22,000 small addresses, so their card sits above the list, not in it.

Our rule

How we label a wallet a source, or nothing

  • A name needs a named source. Each label shows who made the attribution and links to it. This snapshot’s labels come from BitInfoCharts.
  • No guessing. An address we can’t source reads Unlabeled, even when it looks like a famous one.
  • No people. We label exchanges, funds, companies, mining pools and seized coins. We never name a private person.
  • Spot checks. Balances for ranks 1, 30 and 100 matched mempool.space on Oct 6, 2026; from now on our reader reads every address there directly.

How to read the list three things that trip people up

Exchanges dominate

The biggest addresses are mostly exchange cold wallets, holding many customers’ coins at once. A big balance there is not one whale.

Moves are often housekeeping

Exchanges move coins between their own wallets daily. A send is worth a look, not a conclusion.

Old and still is the story

Some addresses haven’t sent a coin in over a decade. When one of those wakes, it usually makes the news, and the Satoshi markets are where traders price it.

What people ask most and the plain answers

Whose wallets are these?

Mostly exchanges holding customers’ coins in cold storage, plus funds, companies and governments that seized coins. Many have no public owner at all. We show a name only when a named source attributes the address, and we link that source.

Why isn’t Satoshi number one?

Satoshi’s estimated 1.096 million BTC sits in about 22,000 addresses of roughly 50 BTC each. No one of them is large enough to make the list, even though together they are larger than any wallet on it.

How often does this update?

Every 6 hours. Each run reads the 100 largest addresses and the latest transactions for each, and the time of the last check is at the top of the page.

Can you tell which exchange the coins went to?

Only when the receiving address carries a sourced label. From the first run of our own reader, every send is traced to its receiving addresses; a named exchange appears only when a source labels that address, and everything else reads as unlabeled.

Does a big transfer mean someone is selling?

Not on its own. Exchanges shuffle coins between their own wallets all the time, and a cold wallet sending coins is often just a refill of the hot wallet. Treat a move as a reason to look, not a signal.

Is one address one person?

No. One exchange address can hold the coins of millions of customers, and one person can spread coins across thousands of addresses.
